For nearly 60 years, the ACLU of Alabama has been committed to defending all Alabamians’ rights and freedoms– no matter who is in the Statehouse, the Governor’s mansion, or the White House. Our role is no different today.
We have a fight ahead of us in Alabama. As Trump assumes the nation's highest office, Alabama legislators will head to Montgomery to start the 2025 Legislative Session. Lawmakers this legislative session are likely to propose bills targeting our rights and freedoms.
Alabamians know our state has been a testing ground for some of Trump’s most cruel policies. From gender-affirming healthcare bans, to criminalizing immigrants, to some of the strictest abortion laws in the nation, Alabama is no stranger to regressive legislation.
As the home of the Civil Rights Movement, our history has shown us that change is always made from the ground up, in our own towns and cities, when we show up. Whether it’s defending attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, standing up for our immigrant neighbors, or rallying for reproductive freedom, the ACLU of Alabama will be there. In 2025, we know what we are up against in the statehouse– and we are ready to take on the fight.
As we head into the 2025 Legislative Session, we need you with us now more than ever. Whether it’s in the courts, through community action, or continued lobbying, we won’t stop fighting until “we the people” means all of us. We hope you’re with us.
